‘Maar ik ben niet jarig. Ik ben nog nooit jarig geweest.’ … Misschien ben ik volgend jaar wel jarig, dacht de egel.
In Toon Tellegen’s latest book De egel, dat ben ik you get to know the hedgehog, de egel. He lives on his own, in a little hut in het struikgewas, in the middle of the forest. Every day he meets a new challenge: he decides to invite all the other animals to his house (but gets anxious), he floats around the forest on his table after heavy rainfall, and one day he philosophises about why he can clear his house of rubbish, but not his head of thoughts.
Every week you will read a few chapters of this book and discuss the themes in class. How does the hedgehog feel about his spikes? Why is he so afraid of change? And what would you do if a centipede with muddy boots visited your house?
During the course you will also get the opportunity to practise using the new words you learn from the book, and to do creative writing assignments.
In this course you will read chapter 1-25 (p. 8-62).
