Masir Sarsar – مصير صرصار (The Fate of a Cockroach) is a brilliant satirical play written by prominent Egyptian writer Tawfiq al-Hakim. In this masterpiece, al-Hakim tells the story of a society of cockroaches who live in a bathroom thinking it to be a spacious and beautiful courtyard. Piercing through its dark humour, this play shows the inventiveness and brilliant commentary on human existence by one of Egypt’s great writers.
In this 6 lesson course, you will read ‘The Fate of Cockroach’ in Arabic. Through group activities and take-home exercises you’ll dive into the story of the play, while at the same time refreshing your knowledge of the Arabic language. The materials for the course will be provided before the beginning of the course.
At the end of this course, you will write a short monologue that you will present to the group.
This course is suitable for students with a B2+ level in Arabic.
