In 2004, the famous Italian director Marco Tullio Giordana made a four-episode miniseries for Rai Television: ‘La meglio gioventú’. The miniseries achieved extraordinary success, won national and international awards and became one of the most loved series of the Italian public. In addition to the enjoyment you get from the beauty of the direction and the extraordinary skills of the actors, ‘La meglio gioventù’ is a very interesting tool to explore the events in Italian society over the course of almost fifty years: from the economic boom of the early 1960s to the tragic G8 of Genoa in 2001.
The story follows the lives of the brothers Nicola and Matteo Carati and their friends: they are high school students in the early 1960s, university students in the late 1960s, young adults in the troubled ‘anni di piombo’ of internal terrorism, and adults during the political and financial scandals of the 1990s.
Each lessons starts with a short introduction, followed by an episode (90 minutes). After you’ve watched you will discuss the episode and engage in various activities connected to what you’ve just seen. A small aperitif and snacks will be provided!
This course consists of one lesson per month. Course dates: 30/09, 28/10, 18/11 & 16/12.
The course is suitable for students with level B1 and higher. You’ll watch the episodes spoken in Italian, with Italian subtitles.
