Italian Opera

Italian Opera

Much of the fascination attributed to Italian is due to its harmony and musicality.
In which other languages if not this, could the lyrical opera be born?
Music, song and theater at the height of their expressiveness and beauty, are the components of this extraordinary form of art that has always contributed to making Italian appreciated and studied all over the world.

For this indissoluble link between opera and the language, the idea of this course is born, conceived for those who already have a knowledge of Italian and would like to deepen it in step with the deepening of some of the most famous lyrical masterpieces.

A journey in three lessons, each dedicated to a different work of the 1800s and to its composer, chosen among the most illustrious Italian names – Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti.

In each meeting our Italian teachers, Anna and Paula, will talk about the historical context, the figure of the author and the plot of the work. Of course, there will be enough space to listen and study some of the most famous arias.

Opera: Rossini - Il barbiere di Siviglia

Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) is an opera buffa in two acts by Gioachino Rossini with an Italian libretto by Cesare Sterbini. The libretto was based on Pierre Beaumarchais's French comedy Le Barbier de Séville (1775). The première of Rossini's opera (under the title Almaviva, o sia L'inutile precauzione) took place on 20 February 1816 at the Teatro Argentina, Rome.

Rossini's Barber has proven to be one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within music, and has been described as the opera buffa of all "opere buffe". After two hundred years, it remains a popular work.
