Amsterdam is one of the most multicultural cities in Europe, and every day our school welcomes students from diverse language backgrounds, including children!
Every two months, Taalhuis turns the school into a language playground to welcome families and young language enthusiasts! There is a children’s book reading carousel in different languages. In the café, you’ll find a fun and creative workshop for children, accompanied by coffee or tea and croissants to start your day. Between 12:00 and 13:00, you’re invited to join the cozy lunch buffet.
Sinterklaas is celebrated on 5 December, so our theme for this edition is Sinterklaas! We’ll bake pepernoten, read stories about Sinterklaas, and explore similar gift-giving traditions from other cultures. Our volunteer teachers and parents will read Dutch, Greek, Italian, and Turkish books to children. Is your language not on the list? Feel free to bring a book with you and read it in your language.
The Kindertaalcafé is a place not only for play, reading, and exploration as a family, but also for connecting with other members of Amsterdam’s multicultural community.
Program:
10:00 – Doors open
10:30 – Reading carousel starts
12:00 – Lunch
Join us anytime between 10:00 and 13:00 and stay for as long as you like. Feel free to arrive, leave, and come back whenever suits you best. While one or more teachers will be present, the Kindertaalcafé is happy to welcome parents and caretakers with ideas and contributions!
