Marieke is a Dutch teacher at Taalhuis Amsterdam. She is originally from Arnhem. She was educated as a history teacher. After teaching history at a secondary school for a while, she decided to retrain to teach Dutch as a Second Language. In addition to her work at Taalhuis, she also works as a Dutch teacher and integration counselor for both illiterate and highly educated individuals.
Although Marieke stopped teaching history, she still enjoys visiting museums focused on history in her free time. She loves crocheting and sings in a choir, but most of all, she enjoys being outdoors. She is passionate about hiking and (wild) camping and regularly travels around Europe. For example, she has walked several parts of the Camino de Santiago while carrying her tent in her backpack.
