Dutch on Schiermonnikoog (1-4 May 2026) - Taalhuis Amsterdam

Dutch on Schiermonnikoog (1-4 May 2026)

With a length of 16 km and a width of 4 km, Schiermonnikoog is the smallest inhabited Wadden island of the Netherlands. The only village on the island is also called Schiermonnikoog.

From 1 to 4 May Taalhuis Amsterdam will travel to this unique island for an intensive weekend of Dutch language and culture!

The weekend includes 9,5 hours of Dutch classes, an excursion and a welcome dinner. There are also some optional activities you can join, and of course you can make your own plans alone or in smaller groups to explore the island and to practise your Dutch with the locals!

(Preliminary) weekend plans*:
Friday: arrival, 1,5 hour Dutch class (17:30-19:00) and welcome dinner.
Saturday: morning class (10:00-13:00) and afternoon excursion.
Sunday: morning class (10:00-13:00) and final presentations (16:00-18:00).
Monday: check-out.
*Times can still change a bit, depending on reservation availability.

Levels:
This weekend is open to all levels from beginners to advanced! All you need is the motivation to speak Dutch for the entire weekend. There will be small groups based on the levels of the participants and a team of Dutch teachers is attending the trip to provide engaging lessons with a focus on Schiermonnikoog. They are also your 24/7 Dutch language coaches, answering all your questions about the Dutch language and engaging you in games and discussions during the excursions, drinks and dinners.

Location:
You will stay and have most lessons at the Aude Kolonyhus.

Price:
The price for the weekend is €600,-*. This includes:
– 9,5 hours of Dutch class.
– one excursion.
– your stay at the Aude Kolonyhus for three nights.
– the welcome dinner.
– Saturday’s breakfast.
– a rental bike.

*If you would like to join the lessons but arrange your own accommodation, or if you would like to have a room for yourself, please contact us to discuss options.

How to get there:
Your travel arrangements to and from the island are not included. You can get to the harbour of Lauwersoog by train, bus or car (park your car in the harbour – you can not take your car with you to the island) and then take the ferry to the island. It’s a bit of a challenge, but definitely worth it! We’re happy to advise and will create an app group in the week before departure so you can make travel/carpool plans with other participants.

Registration:
Ga je mee? Please use this form to register.
Availability is limited, so don’t hesitate too long to register!
If you came with us before: we’d love to see you on the island again, but due to the limited availability of spots, we’ll give priority to people who’ve not been on this trip before. Please still fill out the form or email us at info@taalhuisamsterdam.nl if you’d like to join again and we’ll let you know if there’s a spot for you in the first week of March.

Come to the island of Schiermonnikoog for a weekend full of Dutch language and culture!
