Italian

Avanti, entrate!’ That’s how the Italian teachers welcome you at Taalhuis. In class we speak  as much Italian as possible and we mostly focus on developing speaking skills, of course paying attention to the grammar and vocabulary.  There is also lots of room for culture, songs and news, to make sure you’re ready to face the next trip to ‘the Boot’.

New courses start in the week of 8 April (West) and in the week of 6 May (Centre/West). Scroll down for the schedule.

The courses are in the CENTRE (Muiderstraat 24, Sint Nicolaasstraat 59 or Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 101, you will receive a confirmation of the exact location approximately 1 week before the course starts) or in WEST (Postjesweg 175).

Do you want to enroll in one of the on-going courses? That’s possible! Please contact us for the options.

Le assaggiatrici

The new book for 2019 will be Le assaggiatrici. Read this beautiful novel with guidance of Marzia.

Opera course!

Much of the fascination attributed to Italian is due to its harmony and musicality.
In which other languages if not this, could the lyrical opera be born?
Music, song and theater at the height of their expressiveness and beauty, are the components of this extraordinary form of art that has always contributed to making Italian appreciated and studied all over the world.

For this indissoluble link between opera and the language, the idea of this course is born, conceived for those who already have a knowledge of Italian and would like to deepen it in step with the deepening of some of the most famous lyrical masterpieces.

A journey in six lessons, each dedicated to a different work of the 1800s and to its composer, chosen among the six most illustrious Italian names – Puccini, Rossini, Bellini, Verdi, Mascagni, Donizetti.

In each meeting our Italian teachers, Anna and Paula, will talk about the historical context, the figure of the author and the plot of the work. Of course, there will be enough space to listen and study some of the most famous arias.

The course is in Italian. To secure interesting conversations and dynamic in the group Italian B1 level is a prerequisite for enrolling for the Opera series.

CILS exams

Taalhuis Amsterdam collaborates with the University of Siena for the CILS examinations.
The CILS Centre is a research centre aimed at planning, developing, producing and administrating and validating the CILS certification.
The CILS certification is a qualification issued by the university which declares the level of linguistic and communicative competences in Italian as a foreign language. The exams are designed to assess how learners use Italian to communicate in real-life situations.
The CILS exams offer an ample range of levels and uses that correspond to increasingly ample degrees of competence and to different social contexts of language use. There are six levels, following the guidelines in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: level A1, level A2, level ONE-B1, level TWO-B2, level THREE-C1, level FOUR-C2.
CILS is a member of EALTA (European Association for Language Testing and Assessment) and founding member of the CLIQ (Italian Certification of Quality).
Why choose the CILS certification to certify your competence in Italian at Taalhuis Amsterdam?
