Join our teacher and “cook for one night” Dor in our Taalhuis kitchen for a dive into Jewish culture and cuisine. Learn how to prepare a traditional Jewish dinner: Challah with dips.
Both of these dishes are part of the Jewish tradition of family dinners, where many people gather to meet and enjoy good traditional food and company. In this workshop, we will cook the vegan versions of these dishes. We will bake challah and prepare dips made from eggplants and tahini.
Challah is a braided bread usually made on Fridays and eaten at the Shabbat dinner (Friday evening). Challah is usually slightly sweet. Alongside the challah, we will prepare good tahini and an eggplant salad.
During this 2,5 hour workshop, you will get your hands dirty while making your own Jewish meal. While you’re on the job, you’ll learn the necessary cooking vocabulary in Hebrew and some interesting stories and anecdotes about traditional Jewish cuisine.
When the preparations are done, we’ll have a ‘borrel’ and set the table and taste a few starters. Then it’s time to taste this comfort food and chat about Jewish culture, cuisine, and language.
