A talk about learning Italian between our student Ruby and her teacher Francesca!

F: Hi Ruby, how are you?

R: Good! Hi, Francesca and you?

F: Very well, thanks. So, today we’re here to interview you Ruby. Tell us a little about yourself, why do you study Italian?

R: Hmm, I started learning Italian a little more than a year ago, in the period of Covid. At this time I didn’t want to think too much about Covid and I wanted to do something new and positive, so I thought that learning Italian was good for my head and my brain. Italian was the first thing I thought about … that’s why …

F: Nice, a way to keep you a little busy in this pandemic period, stuck at home.

R: Yes, and I like languages, Italian seemed fun and interesting to learn

F: So in this year, or just over a year that you study Italian, has studying Italian changed your life a bit?

R: Yes a lot. Learning another language takes a lot of time and a lot of patience. I have a lot of time but I don’t have a lot of patience, and then, it’s almost like learning another musical instrument. So, I tried to practice a little every day, especially at the beginning because I didn’t speak any Italian.

F: Well, your learning path was very fast, in just a year you learnt a lot very well.

R: Yes, yes, but I have taken many courses because to learn a language I have to practice every day and as much as possible.

F: Was there one thing in particular that was very difficult for you to learn Italian?

R: The Italian language is a meticulous language and I have to be very precise, especially with the tenses, verbs’ tenses  are a very difficult thing, because there are too many for me.

F: Too many verbs in Italian! And have you found a strategy, a way to learn these verbs?

R: Practice, practice, practice is the only solution … and a little bluffing.

F: Yes it’s true, bluffing helps. I agree Ruby!

F: Listen, do you have a favorite word in Italian?

R: Boh, yes, boh, boh, I find “boh” and “basta”, “casino”, but also this week I learned some new longer words: “salamelecchi and “pettegolezzi ”, I like these words because you can hear the Italian rhythm and also the Italian sound.

F: Yes, I agree, you have chosen some beautiful words. Tell me, what do you like about classes at Taalhuis Amsterdam, is there anything in particular that you like?

R: Well, I found that there are many different teachers at Taalhuis, and they are all very nice and they are able to put a lot of good energy and a good environment into the lesson, so students can make mistakes. But also, the teachers have a lot of enthusiasm, yes I like it!

F: I’m happy for you, nice. And listen, do you have goals for the future in your Italian career?

R: I learn Italian for myself, as a hobby but I hope that one day I will speak Italian fluently and when I am in Italy I can understand everything Italians say.

F: Great, great! In my opinion Ruby you are on the perfect direction to achieve this goal. So keep it up and it will be great!

R: Thanks Francesca

Francesca: Ciao Ruby, come stai?

Ruby: Bene, ciao Francesca e tu?

F: Molto bene, grazie. Allora, oggi siamo qui per intervistarti Ruby. Raccontaci un po’ di te, perché studi l’italiano?

R: Ehm, Ho incominciato a imparare l’italiano un po’ più di un anno fa, nel periodo del Covid. In questo tempo non volevo pensare troppo al Covid e volevo fare qualcosa di nuovo e positivo, allora pensavo che imparare l’italiano era buono per la mia testa e il mio cervello. L’italiano era la prima cosa a cui ho pensato … è per questo…

F: Bello, per tenerti un po’ impegnata in questo periodo di pandemia, chiusa in casa.

R: Sì, e mi piacciono le lingue, l’italiano mi sembrava divertente e interessante da imparare

F: Quindi in questo anno, o poco più di un anno che studi l’italiano, studiare l’italiano ha cambiato un po’ la tua vita?

R: Sì molto. Imparare un’altra lingua vuole molto tempo e molta pazienza. Io ho molto tempo ma non ho molta pazienza, e allora, è quasi come imparare un altro strumento musicale. Allora, ho provato a praticare ogni giorno un po’, soprattutto all’inizio perché io non parlavo niente italiano.

F: Beh, hai fatto un percorso velocissimo, in un anno sei stata molto veloce a imparare così bene.

R: Sì sì, ma ho fatto molti corsi perché per imparare una lingua devo praticare ogni giorno e il più possibile.

F: C’è stata una cosa in particolare che è stata molto difficile per te per imparare l’italiano?

R: La lingua italiana è una lingua meticolosa e devo essere molto precisa, soprattutto con i tempi, i tempi dei verbi è una cosa molto difficile, perché ce ne sono troppi per me.

F: Troppi verbi in italiano! E hai trovato una strategia, un modo per imparare questi verbi?

R: Pratica, pratica, pratica è la sola soluzione e un po’ bluffare.

F: Sì è vero il bluff aiuta. Sono d’accordo Ruby! Senti, hai una parola preferita in italiano?

R: Boh, sì, boh, boh, trovo “boh” e “basta”, “casino”, ma anche questa settimana ho imparato qualche nuova parola più lunga: “salamelecchi  e “pettegolezzi”,  mi piacciono queste parole perché puoi sentire il ritmo italiano e anche il suono italiano.

F: Sì, sono d’accordo,  hai scelto delle bellissime parole. Senti, cosa ti piace delle lezioni a Taalhuis Amsterdam, c’è qualcosa in particolare che ti piace?

R: Beh, ho scoperto che presso Taalhuis ci sono molti insegnanti diversi, e sono tutti molto simpatici e nella lezione gli insegnanti sono capaci di mettere molta buona energia e un buon ambiente, allora gli studenti possono fare degli errori. Ma anche, gli insegnanti hanno molto entusiasmo, sì mi piace!

F: Sono contenta, bello. E senti, hai degli obiettivi per il futuro, nella la tua carriera in italiano?

R: Io imparo italiano per me, come un hobby ma spero che un giorno parlerò italiano fluentemente e quando sono in Italia posso capire tutto quello che dicono gli italiani.

F: Fantastico, benissimo! Secondo me Ruby sei sulla direzione perfetta per raggiungere questo obiettivo. Quindi continua così e andrà benissimo!

R: Grazie Francesca
