Ciao! Benvenuti!
Come play in the magical world of languages! Our lessons for children aim to make children feel at ease while learning a (new) language. Joy in speaking and learning Italian is central in our courses and our children’s courses are fully taught in Italian. For children who speak (some) Italian at home, the lessons can provide a welcome support to parents who are raising their children multilingually. Our lessons also welcome children who are not actively using Italian at home but are curious to learn, or families who are planning to move abroad.
Our children’s department is still growing. This January we are offering a playgroup for preschoolers. Are you looking for a different age group or level? Let us know!
There are countless reasons to delve into the adventure of learning Italian. From speaking Italian at home and wanting to strengthen the connection with the language, to playing games in Italian with friends, or even enjoying holidays in Italy through understanding the language and culture.
At Taalhuis Amsterdam, we celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity by providing engaging and joyful language lessons for children. Learning Italian opens the door to a unique linguistic and cultural world for your child. Besides the wonderful asset of knowing more than one language, there are many benefits to learning a new language. It enhances children’s overall learning abilities such as problem-solving skills, mental flexibility and cognitive development. Moreover, it supports socio-emotional development, improves social skills and cultural awareness. Many studies have proven that supporting a child’s home language / minority language not only strengthens their multilingual abilities but also their language skills in the dominant (first) language.
Taalhuis Amsterdam values an inspiring learning environment where children can grow through building sustainable connections with a language and culture together with their peers. At Taalhuis, we use the immersive method. This means that the lessons are fully taught in Italian and that new themes and vocabulary are introduced in a natural context through play, fantasy, music and books. This supportive and engaging approach allows children to naturally acquire a new language through structured and interactive experiences. Parents can join this adventure too through brief updates from the teacher after each lesson, with links to songs, stories and tips to continue exploring Italian at home.
We offer courses for preschoolers (4-6 years old) for children in the first years of primary school. In our classes for preschoolers, each lesson focuses on a different theme, relevant to the life of your child.
Based on sufficient demand, we can also offer courses for children aged 6-11. For these courses children should have basic reading and writing skills in the Latin alphabet. Our children’s courses for 6-11 year olds are divided into different levels that are structured according to the CEFR Cambridge framework for children, which provides the following guidelines and ‘can do’ statements per level:
Starters (pre-A1, age 6-9): Children learn to understand simple sentences and conversations and can name and write familiar things, such as family and objects they frequently use.
Movers (A1, age 7-10): Children learn to understand written and spoken short stories and to tell a short story themselves. They also learn to write simple sentences.
Flyers (A2, age 8 -11): Children learn to understand and give descriptions, write and tell a short story and talk about what they did (the day or week before, for example).
We currently offer a course for preschoolers (4-6 years old).
