Are you interested in learning Italian or improving your language skills? Would you like the opportunity to meet our Italian teachers, learn more about our school and Italian courses, and experience a trial lesson before making a decision?
We invite you to join us for our Italian open day, market, and borrel on Saturday, September 7 at our Vondelpark location at Tweede Schinkelstraat 26.
The open day is a perfect opportunity to explore your language learning options. During the day, you’ll have the chance to join trial lessons for various levels and with diverse themes including Italian art, cinema, literature, and current affairs, and lectures about music and food! If you already speak some Italian but are unsure about your level you can also join intake sessions to determine your language proficiency level before signing up for a course. While trial lessons take place in the classrooms, we will have an Italian market and a borrel in our main hall. There we will host our Italian partners Dante Alighieri Amsterdam, La Burrata, and Polpetta so that you can discover their products and activities while enjoying some drinks and bites and “chiacchierare”, chatting with other students or teachers!
Trial lessons and intake sessions are completely free and you can join as many sessions as you want as long as you reserve your spot in advance.

About the lectures
Eating in Ancient Rome
Everyone knows the culinary habits of Italians, but what can we say about the habits of the ancient Romans? What kind of foods did they prefer and how did they preserve them? Was it a simple cuisine or was it rather refined? Did they also have eating disorders like we have nowadays? Join us and discover the culinary world of ancient Rome. To make the experience even more interesting we will prepare a typical dish from that period together.
Musica Napoletana
Join Italian teacher and Neapolitan musician Luca for an engaging introduction to the Canzone Napoletana, tracing its evolution from the 19th century to today with musical examples.

How can I register for a trial lesson or an intake?
Please fill out the registration form with the required information. You will receive the confirmation for each session you signed up for via email the week before the open day.
I am a student at Taalhuis, can I still join?
Of course! The open day is open for everyone and we’re happy to welcome our students. You can also just come by to visit our market, catch up, and chat with our teachers and other students while you’re enjoying your drinks and bites during the day.
I can’t make it on 7 September, will there be another one?
If you cannot make it to the on-location Italian open day, you are very welcome to join us for an online open evening on 4 September, Wednesday for online Italian trial lessons and intakes.

For other Taalhuis languages, we will have a separate on-location open day on 1 September and an online open evening on 4 September! You can find the schedule and the registration form on the events pages.
