Classical Persian poetry: Mystical and Sufi poetry of Mowlana

In the course of 3 evenings we will briefly discuss classical Persian poetry developed between the tenth to sixteenth centuries. We will introduce you to some of the most prominent Persian poets (Shahnameh, Rumi and Sa’adi) of this period and their masterpieces, talk about historical context, and of course, read the poems (in the original language) and discuss an interpretation of them.

Tonight is on the program: Mystical and Sufi poetry of Mowlana (a.k.a Rumi).

The relevance of Mowlana’s poetry goes beyond time and space. His poems are read by millions beyond the boundaries of the Iranian plateau. His encounter with a Shams-e-Tabrizi at the age of 37 transformed him into an ascetic. Mowlana’s mystical poetry carries the message of enlightenment and emancipation.

You can follow the whole course but it is also possible to follow one or more single sessions.
This series is designed for students with different levels of Farsi. The lessons will be in English.
