Classical Persian poetry: Poems of Sa’adi

In the course of 3 evenings we will briefly discuss classical Persian poetry developed between the tenth to sixteenth centuries. We will introduce you to some of the most prominent Persian poets (Shahnameh, Rumi and Sa’adi) of this period and their masterpieces, talk about historical context, and of course, read the poems (in the original language) and discuss an interpretation of them.

Tonight is on the program: Poems of Sa’adi

Saadi is remembered as a great panegyrist and lyricist, the author of a number of masterly general odes portraying human experience, and also of particular odes such as the lament on the fall of Baghdad after the Mongol invasion in 1258.

You can follow the whole course but it is also possible to follow one or more single sessions.
This series is designed for students with different levels of Farsi. The lessons will be in English.
