Frederiek is a Dutch teacher at Taalhuis Amsterdam. She grew up in Utrecht and Arnhem. After completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Design in Amsterdam, she relocated to Athens to work at a contemporary art space and to learn Greek. The joy of learning a new language inspired her to train as a teacher of English as a second language. Soon after gaining her first teaching experience, she decided to switch to teaching Dutch, her mother tongue. For Frederiek, the best thing about teaching is when students surprise themselves: when they pull the perfect expression out of the bag for a given context, or when they suddenly nail the complex word order of a Dutch sentence. Besides teaching, Frederiek is writing her Master’s thesis on Dutch textiles.
