Madrid, August 5th 1939. The Spanish Civil War has just finished and the troops of General Franco start executing “public enemies”, the Republican supporters that won’t stop fighting for their ideals. Thirteen young women, Carmen, Martina, Blanca, Pilar, Julia, Adelina, Elena, Virtudes, Ana, Joaquina, Dionisia, Victoria and Luisa, are part of a massive execution campaign. They would be known by the name Las Trece Rosas (The Thirteen Roses).
Based on a true story, the film follows the tragic fate of these thirteen young women, who were sentenced to death by a military court for a crime they had not committed. A feminist historical movie that portraits the first days of Franco’s dictatorship, a period in the past that is still in the news these days.
