So you’ve studied your conjugaison and think you’ve learnt all the many different tenses there are in French, but then you open a novel and – alas – you notice a tense you haven’t seen before! That is because in French, there is a past tense called the passé simple that is used almost exclusively in fiction writing.
But how to use the passé simple? And when? And how does it relate to all the other past tenses you have already learned? An avid reader, you feel disheartened. But don’t be! In this workshop, Charlotte will go over all the different past tenses, passé composé, imparfait, plus-que parfait, etc. and introduce you to the passé simple. Through reading and writing exercises, games, and other activities, you will learn to identify the passé simple and other past tenses in a story, and what they mean. You will be able to quickly jump into your favourite stories again, and who knows, maybe you will even start writing your own!
The duration of the workshop is 3 hours (including a short break) and it is suitable for all students who have completed A2.3 and above. Additional exercises and a writing assignment will be given and corrected by the teacher within two weeks after the workshop.
