We invite you to our improvised cinema to watch classics and hidden gems from the Mediterranean!
Cinema is an effective medium for language learning, offering rich insights into the culture of a country or region. That’s why our school hosts an annual Cineforum, a series of film screenings designed for all those who love and want to discover more about Mediterranean languages and cultures.
Every month, we create a cozy cinema and watch a film in one of the Taalhuis languages around a theme. The theme of this season is ‘woman’, and we will watch women’s stories from around the Mediterranean basin and the Netherlands. Each film is in its original language with English subtitles, and there is a brief introduction to help you enjoy the film even more.
We close the evening with a borrel in our café, where you can discuss the film with other film and language lovers (or just enjoy a drink).
This month, it’s France’s turn, and we’ll watch Une femme est une femme (A Woman Is a Woman) by Jean-Luc Godard (1961).

Year: 1961
Duration: 1h 24m

“Une femme est une femme” is a 1961 French experimental musical and a romantic comedy. The film was directed by Jean-Luc Godard, who also scripted it. The contribution made by its leading lady, Anna Karina, was fundamental and widely acknowledged and mentioned by the director himself, although he never credited her as co-writer.
Anna Karina is Angéla, an exotic dancer with an official love (Emile) and an unofficial one (Alfred), and she wants to have a child, possibly by her official partner. When Emile thwarts her in this agenda, Angela brings all her resources to bear.
