In this immersive course, you’ll learn the basics of Egyptian Arabic, which is spoken in Egypt and widely understood throughout the Arabic speaking world. You will practise speaking through simple conversations, greetings, formalities, talking about yourself and getting to know someone, asking for and offering a drink, counting, and asking simple questions.
The course is very practical and active participation is encouraged and required of the student.
Course Objectives:
Build a solid basic vocabulary of around 300 words.
Count to 10.
Greet people and use basic formalities.
Introduce yourself and your family, ask and answer questions about personal details such as where you live, where you learn Arabic, and what you do in life, and offer and order drinks.
During this immersive week, you’ll be processing a lot of information in a short amount of time. Make sure you can dedicate enough time to homework. Homework consists of different assignments to memorise new vocabulary and sentences, as well as reading, listening and writing exercises.
You will practise reading and writing the Arabic alphabet during this course, but it is recommended to combine this immersion week with a weekend alphabet ‘crash course’. After this immersion week + alphabet weekend, you’re ready to join an A1.1 course starting in September.
