In de stad Amsterdam dromen veel mensen van een huis met een tuin. Sommige mensen vinden de natuur in de stad, anderen trekken uit de stad de natuur in. In ‘Buitenleven’ (Nina Polak, 2022) vertrekken twee vrouwen naar het platteland in het noorden van Nederland. Voor de een is het een droom die werkelijkheid wordt, voor de ander blijkt het een zeepbel die uit elkaar spat. Wat voor invloed heeft deze nieuwe omgeving op hun relatie en hun persoonlijke ontwikkeling?

This book club meets every other week. In preparation for the lessons, you’ll read around 30-40 pages each time. During the lessons, you will discuss core themes from the book such as: the tension between the countryside and city life in the Netherlands, housing dreams, the life of people in their thirties, relationships, and careers. You’ll also analyse the style of writing and learn about Dutch literature. In this course, you will develop your reading and speaking skills, but also have the option of practising your writing skills.

This course requires an (almost) finished B2 level.

This course takes place every other week (including a holiday week). Lessons are on 22/04, 13/05, 27/05, 10/06, 24/06 & 08/07.
