Our city, Amsterdam, is home to one of the most multicultural communities in Europe. Every day, our school welcomes hundreds of students, with the most diverse mother tongues, who live here and learn Dutch, as well as people who are driven to learn Italian, Turkish, Arabic, or French by the desire to build multicultural families with their partners.
The children of Amsterdam have a treasure trove of languages and cultures that they come into contact with every day, and we want to celebrate and honour the beauty of this diversity here at Taalhuis with some afternoons dedicated to the little Amsterdammers.
In our Kindertaalcafé, children and families will find:
– Reading estafette in the different languages of our school, by a teacher or a parent volunteer. (If you are a parent and would like to read to children in your mother tongue, please get in touch with us.)
– Creative activities (baking traditional cookies/crafting/drawing).
– A lunch buffet with special treats between 12:00 and 13:30.
The parents and caretakers are very welcome in our Kindertaalcafé, where they will have the chance to meet and chat with other members of Amsterdam’s multicultural community, share experiences and ideas, and make more connections. You can play, read, and explore as a family, help yourself to our various creative resources, and have lunch together with other families.
Join us anytime between 12:00 and 15:00 and stay for as long as you like. Feel free to arrive, leave, and come back whenever suits you best. While one or more teachers will be present, the Kindertaalcafé is happy to welcome parents and caretakers with ideas and contributions!
