Janneke was studying Theatre at the University of Amsterdam when she discovered that there was much more to studying the Dutch language than reading medieval texts: linguistics! That made her second study her favourite one. She worked as a teacher for a while, then as an editor for a publishing company.

After seven years she started getting itchy and returned to teaching at Taalhuis Amsterdam in 2018, where she also takes care of a lot of the admin. She still likes to use her red pen on Dutch books, which might be one of the reasons that 90% of what she reads for relaxation is written in English.
