Where better to learn a language than in the country where it is spoken? Every year, Taalhuis travels to Italy for a special language trip. Dive into the language and culture with us and find out why so many students fall in love with the Italian language and culture.
From April 14th to 18th, 2025, we will take you on an unforgettable trip to explore the stunning beauty of Genova, for which it has been known for centuries. The 14th-century Italian poet Francesco Petrarca said about Genova: “Vedrai una città regale, addossata a una collina alpestre, superba per uomini e per mura, il cui solo aspetto la indica signora del mare” (You will see a royal city, perched on an alpine hill, superb in men and walls, whose appearance alone indicates that it is the lady of the sea).
Genova “la superba” – as Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer decided to name one of his famous novels set in this town in Liguria – was one of the greatest maritime powers in the Mediterranean from the 11th to the 16th century. A crossroads of languages and cultures, a city of the sea but also of the hills, a royal and wealthy city but also ruthless in trade and fierce as the pirates who traversed its streets and “carruggi.”
Genova has welcomed writers and intellectuals, bewitched by its glorious but also shadowy nature. By its sea that seems to reach everywhere with its load of travel stories and distant, unknown languages. Genova has been the cradle of a musical current to which the most important Italian singer-songwriters have belonged since the 1960s (one above all: Fabrizio De André). Even today, among its streets, one breathes a wild and authentic beauty, untouched by mass tourism.
Taalhuis invites you to discover this unique and unforgettable city together.
Every morning, you will have 3 hours of Italian language courses. In the afternoon, we have a variety of exciting extracurricular activities planned to make your experience even more memorable. More details about the extra activities will follow closer to the date.
