Join Flemming and Lieke in our Taalhuis kitchen and learn how to prepare the Dutch winter dish by definition: their majesty the stamppot.
Combining potatoes with vegetables in a stamppot (mashed potato dish) is a very original and traditional Dutch dish – warm and simple, perfectly suitable for the cold winters. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, this dish will have a romantic twist: we’re adding red beets and red cabbage to turn this stamppot the colour of love. We will also prepare ‘the other half’ of a traditional stamppot: smoked sausage*.
For dessert, there is another Dutch staple on the menu: poffertjes! These tiny, fluffy pancakes are known in other countries as ‘Dutch pancakes’ and are a delightful treat to enjoy on your own or share with someone you love.
During this 2,5 hour workshop, you will get your hands dirty while making your own Dutch stamppot and poffertjes. If you want, you’ll learn the necessary cooking vocabulary in Dutch while you’re on the job.
When the preparations are done, we’ll have a ‘borrel’ and set the table and taste a few Dutch starters. Then it’s time to taste this Dutch comfort food and chat about the Dutch culture, cuisine, and language.
*We will use biological meat and there will be a vegan option.
