Have you completed ‘Arabic Alphabet & Literacy I’, the Alphabet weekend course at Taalhuis, or have you learned the Arabic alphabet and the basics of reading and writing in a different way? In this follow-up course, you will put those skills into practice and become a more confident and independent reader and writer.
The focus of this course is on practical reading and writing in Modern Standard Arabic (fuS7a). You will read a short story (حِكاية سامي وميمي) from the book ‘Master Arabic’, practise writing through regular dictation exercises, and build your vocabulary with useful word lists.
Reading Arabic is not just about books – you will work with different types of authentic, everyday texts. You will read short news texts from Al-Jazeera and practise understanding and completing forms similar to those used in Arabic-speaking countries such as those used when applying for an ID card, a visa, or other official documents. This will help you become familiar with Arabic as it is used in real-life written contexts.
By the end of the course, you will have improved your reading fluency, spelling, writing accuracy and vocabulary, and you will feel more comfortable navigating written Arabic independently.
This course is ideal for students who have followed Arabic Alphabet & Literacy I, completed chapters 1-12 of ‘Master Arabic’, or already know the Arabic alphabet and can read and write basic Arabic. This course is also suitable for students who already speak (a little) Arabic and want to improve their reading and writing skills.
