Once you have completed the Egyptian introduction course, you are on your way to achieve your first milestone in your learning journey: level A1. This Arabic A1.1 course follows our unique approach of teaching Arabic the way Arabs use their language: speaking and understanding spoken Colloquial Arabic (el-3ammiyyah el-maSriyyah), reading and writing Modern Standard Arabic (fuSha). During this course you actively practise speaking and understanding Egyptian Arabic (maSry), and passively learn to understand Modern Standard Arabic (fuSha) by reading and understanding simple texts, as well as learning practical grammar with some writing exercises.
During this course, you will learn to:
– Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type such as what to say on birthday, occasions, when someone is sick, etc.
– Easily express yourself with the verbs ‘to have’ and ‘to want’ in different daily situations.
– Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly, and is prepared to help.
– Use the possessive pronouns correctly in both spoken and written Arabic and understand how they are used to express ownership and relationships.
Prerequisites:
– You know all the letters of the alphabet and are able to read words in Arabic.
– You know how to join the letters to write words.
– You can greet people and reply to basic formalities in Egyptian Arabic, introduce yourself and others, and offer and order drinks.
Homework consists of learning new vocabulary as well as reading, listening and writing exercises. On average, students spend about 2-3 hours per week on their homework.
