Would you like to improve your Egyptian Arabic through music? Join Masry Melodies, a fun and interactive course where we use popular Egyptian songs, such as “Habibi Ya Nour El Ain/حبيبي يا نور العين” by the one and only Amr Diab, to strengthen your listening skills, expand your vocabulary, and deepen your cultural knowledge.
Over six sessions, you will explore a selection of Egyptian songs. Instead of following a fixed selection of songs, the participants themselves will determine the playlist. Each student will have the opportunity to suggest a favourite Egyptian song, creating a diverse mix of musical styles, artists, and themes. Before each class, you’ll listen to the song and read the lyrics. During the session, we’ll unpack key phrases, expressions, and grammar in context, and examine how emotions, humor, and cultural references are conveyed in everyday Egyptian Arabic.
You won’t just analyse the lyrics, but also speak, reflect, and (if you’re brave!) sing along. Through guided discussions and engaging language activities, you’ll broaden your vocabulary, become more comfortable with natural expressions, and gain deeper insight into Egyptian culture.
