Summer course: learn Dutch, Italian, Spanish or Hebrew

Join one of our Dutch, Italian, Spanish or Hebrew Summer Immersions

The best place to learn a language is of course the country itself. Whether you want to order a drink at a bar, ask for directions or try to decipher a complex user manual; you will get completely immersed in the language.

 

In the Netherlands it might be a bit more difficult though, as many Dutch people tend to respond in English. But luckily, our summer immersions are here to help! These summer courses take place between 18 July and 6 August, and consist of 5 days of 3 hours of lessons per day, with (usually) an activity at the end where you can practice what you have learned. We have Dutch, but also Italian, Spanish and Hebrew summer immersions, in which you can make a lot of progress within a short time. You’ll almost only speak in the target language, the groups are small, and the atmosphere is summery (hopefully, as we’re still in the Netherlands).

 

So if you still have one or two weeks off, you know how to spend it in a useful (and fun!) way. Here’s our lineup:

 

Dutch A1.1

Monday 25 July till Friday 29 July + excursion on Saturday

10:00-13:30 (including a break)

In this beginner’s course you’ll build your vocabulary and learn the basic structure of the Dutch language. You’ll learn to make sentences in the present tense, to introduce yourself and to talk about your family. Find more information here.

 

Dutch A1.2

Monday 1 August till Friday 5 August + excursion on Saturday

10:00-13:30 (including a break)

After the beginner’s course you can immediately move on to this second summer course, in which you’ll use the language in various situations, and learn body parts and prepositions, among other things. You’ll also learn how to use past tenses, so you can talk about previous experiences. Find more information here.

 

Dutch A2.1

Monday 25 July till Friday 29 July + excursion on Saturday

In this course you’ll practice your skills by engaging in birthday party conversations, asking and giving directions and talking about pets and sports. You’ll also learn how to use reflexive and separable verbs. Find more information here.

 

Dutch A2.2

Monday 1 August till Friday 5 August + excursion on Saturday

You’ve mastered and practiced your past tenses, so now it’s time to start talking about the future! You’ll also learn to talk about more challenging subjects such as Dutch landscapes, technical problems and films. Find more information here.

 

Italian A1.1

Monday 18 July till Friday 22 July

In this beginner’s course you will expand your vocabulary and learn to make simple sentences. You’ll learn to introduce yourself, tell something about yourself and ask questions. You’ll also practice ordering at a restaurant, booking a room and asking for information. Find more information here.

 

Italian A1.2

In the second course you learn how to request information in a store or at the market, how to describe places and cities and how to ask for help and advice. You’ll have conversations about events from the past and present. Find more information here.

 

Spanish A1.1

In this summer course you’ll learn pronunciation, numbers, colors, the present tense of the regular verbs, how to ask questions and how to use nouns and adjectives. By the end of the course you will be able to introduce yourself, talk about your hobbies and tastes and describe places. Find more information here.

 

After the last lesson we would like to take you to a Spanish speaking bar so you can order in Spanish and toast to a great summer. ¡Salud!

 

Hebrew for beginners

Monday 25 July till Friday 29 July

10:00-13:30 (including a break)

Rapenburgerstraat 123

 

In this introductory summer course you will learn Hebrew as it is spoken in Israel today. You will learn the alphabet (אלף-בית), as well as some foundational vocabulary, grammar and conversational skills. By the end of the week, you will be able to write your own name, read simple texts and order a cup of coffee the way a ‘tzaber’ (native Israeli) would.

 

On Friday evening you will have dinner together at the D&A Hummus Bistro in Amsterdam, where you can practice your Hebrew! (Dinner & drinks not included in the course fee). Find more information here.
