Would you like to learn to speak Egyptian? In this course, you will get acquainted with the Egyptian-Arabic dialect, the most common dialect in the Arab region. You will practice speaking through simple conversations, greetings, formalities, talking about yourself and getting to know someone, asking for and offering a drink, counting, and asking simple questions. In parallel, you will also be introduced to the Arabic script and learn how to read and write the 28 letters of the Arabic alphabet.
The course is very practical in nature and active participation is encouraged and required of you. While you practice all your language skills during class, special emphasis is put on developing your communication and interaction skills to deal with real-life situations.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Introduce yourself and your family and use basic greetings
Make an order in a restaurant
Describe places and objects
Count until 10
Use a solid basic vocabulary of around 200 words
Read and write simple Arabic words
Homework consists of different assignments to practice all four skills (speaking, listening, writing and reading). On average, you spend around 3 hours per week on homework.
This course covers chapter 1-4 of ‘Colloquial Arabic of Egypt’ and does not require any prior knowledge.
