Would you like to pass the B1 threshold? Are you aiming to become an independent user of the Dutch language and to fully participate in Dutch society? This course reinforces the grammar, vocabulary and necessary competences of the B1 level and will provide a challenging and effective way to fully focus on and immerse yourself in the Dutch language for one week.

In this course, you will focus on becoming a confident user of the Dutch language by drilling grammar, reading, writing and a lot of speaking. In just one week you will achieve fluency for everyday life and you’ll also practice the use of Dutch in professional and formal contexts.

Each day will be dedicated to a topic that will take your language skills to the next level and will provide insights in Dutch culture and life in Amsterdam at the same time. You’ll be talking about living in the Netherlands and housing in general, education and work (writing applications, preparing for job interviews and negotiating salary and working conditions), dealing with official institutions (expressing your opinion or formulating complaints), free time and socializing and finally you’ll dive into the lives and work of Dutch artists and famous figures who once lived in the area near our school (Sarphati, Andre Hazes and others).

Over the five days of this course you will analyse, practice and reinforce B1 grammar topics including sentence structure, verb tenses, subordinate clauses, indirect speech, separable verbs and of course the use of the notorious ‘er’.

Our teachers will offer intensive guidance, personal attention and feedback throughout the day. Time for self-study and your personal questions and a daily lunch (with Dutch conversation time) are part of the programme.

Surrounded by the sounds and smells of the Albert Cuyp market, we welcome you to this immersive summer week in our beautiful building, and to new layers of the Dutch language and culture. Lunch, coffee and tea are included. Course materials are provided during the course. (Buying the NT2 woordenboek is recommended).

Practicalities:
– Deadline for registration: 1 July 2026.
– Level: this course is designed to master the B1 level in one intensive week. You should already have a strong intermediate Dutch level in order to make the most of this course. We will contact all registered students for a level intake to make sure this is the right course for you.
